The paper industry is a high-tec global industry requiring processes which will guarantee undamaged paper, i.e. paper products which have no transportation damages or manufacturing defects which could impair further processing in the paper industry.
The firm of Interpac's various fields of activity are mainly to do with the handling of all types of paper products, which range from the
We are a middle-class public services enterprise working in the paper industry and our teams are active in every terminal in the north of Germany handling paper products. Our highly competent teams with many years of experience in this field, remove all transportation damages and manufacturing defects, on all kinds of paper products, both regionally and supraregionally quickly and efficiently.
Fields of activity
The services we offer our clients (paper manufacturers, cargo-handling companies, printers / publishers, forwarding companies, underwriters) guarantees the delivery of an undamaged paper product for further processing inside the paper industry.
During the shipment of the paper products, on the sea route from the paper mill in Scandinavia and Russia, as well as during handling operations in the sea ports, paper products can sustain the following damages, which have to be removed prior to their distribution to the printing companies / publishers. rim-cuts, surface damage, lid, bottom and end face damage, packaging damages, damage to reel core, deformation / impact folds - crushing / unroundness, humidity and water damages, soiling or contamination
We remove damages which have occurred during shipment/ transportation and handling by fitting the paper product with new packagings, re-packing, repairing, cleaning and sorting, as well as providing unique damage removal procedures which focus on the individual damage criteria and needs of our client.
As a result we are able to retain valuable raw material and limit losses.
The providing of new packagings for paper products , into which category reels of newsprint , reels of kraft liner, pallets of copying paper and format goods ,as well as wood pulp all fall, is carried out according to the individual damage criteria and guidelines of our client.
According to the type and extent of damage respectively, all kinds of new packagings are used, from fitting new lids, to replacing the entire reel packaging. If layers of the reel's paper has been damaged, then this will be removed by cutting off the damaged material. Then the new weight is calculated, the barcode will be altered individually by means of a barcode printing machine and the new barcode is attached to the reel.
In the case of pallets and ream packagings, the damaged cartons and sheets of paper are removed or replaced and the pallets wrapped in stretch foil or shrink-wrap and new hoop-irons, made out of either plastic or metal, are attached.
We offer our clients the opportunity, in the course of the discharge of the vessel, of having at their disposal qualified personnel who will supervise proficiently the unloading of the shipment, tally the consignment against the freight papers and assess and record any eventual damage which the paper products may have sustained.
So that the forwarding company is able to carry out the immediate distribution of the paper product directly from the terminal throughout the entire country without lengthy procedural and loading times, we carry out the loading of the trailers at the terminal.
The trailer, which we will provide, will be loaded up with the help of the cargo-handling company, with our teams being responsible for expertly securing the reels of newsprint and bales of wood pulp and for the transportation of the trailer at the terminal.
Our teams are present locally at the numerous terminals where paper products are handled in the north of Germany. The following transshipment ports count among the largest in Germany: Lübeck, Hamburg, Rostock and Kiel.
If the damage to paper products occurs in other European ports, as occurs with forwarding companies or printing companies, these transportation/ shipping- and or manufacturing defects will be treated by our teams quickly and efficiently the local area both, regionally, and supraregionally.
In Lübeck we are active at all the numerous paper terminals, among which are the Nordland Terminal, the Schlutup Terminal and the Lehmannkai Terminal.
The terminals where our teams are active at the moment in Hamburg, are the C. Steinweg (South West Terminal), the Unikai and the Buss Hansa Terminal.
These places of activity inside the port of Hamburg, where paper products can be handled, can be changed as a matter of choice by the client. We would then carry out these services at a different terminal.
If the paper products from our clients in Russia are to be transshipped from Kiel, Ostuferhafen, we will arrange to have the treatment and re-packaging of the goods carried out there, if these goods have sustained any damage.
We receive contracts from our clients throughout the entire country to treat and re-package paper products. Among these are numerous printers / publishers, forwarding companies and manufacturers who have had damaged reels of paper or wood pulp delivered to them. These damaged goods cannot be put into production.
One of our teams will expertly, locally and efficiently remove the damaged material, without any great loss of time, so that these goods can be put into production as soon as possible.
One such contract was the cleaning of approx. 1,500,000 kg wood pulp in the south of Germany (complete cleaning process covered 5 days with 3 colleagues) and also the cleaning of 4000 pallets of copying paper and format goods, completed inside 5 days with 4 colleagues assisting.
Should we receive contracts from clients who wish paper products, which have been transshipped and/ or delivered in a damaged condition,to be treated in other terminals or at other printing companies anywhere in Europe, then the removal of this damage will also be carried out be one of our teams in the local area supraregionally.
This includes contracts carried out in: Belgium, Netherlands, Holland, Austria, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and France
There are reels of newsprint, kraftliner board , copying paper and format goods which have sustained such severe damages that they can no longer be used for their original purpose, so-called write-offs.
We buy up these write-offs and treat these papier products accordingly, e.g. by rewinding, re-packing and the removing all existing damages. After the treatment has been carried out, these products are again damage free and can be sold to our clients world wide.
We buy damaged DIN A4 copying paper which can no longer be used for its original purpose, remove all damaged material, whereby all damaged boxes and reams will be removed and sell on the undamaged DIN A4 copying paper to our customers, ranging from one ream (500 sheets) up to large numbers of pallets.
The current market price for DIN A4 copying paper is available on request, for either one ream (500 sheets) or for a number of pallets.
We buy damaged A3 copying paper which can no longer be used for its original purpose, remove all damaged material, whereby all damaged boxes and reams will be removed and sell on the undamaged DIN A3 copying paper, ranging from one ream (500 sheets) up to large numbers of pallets, to our customers.
The current market price for DIN A3 copying paper is available on request, for either one ream (500 sheets) or for a number of pallets.
We count the economic sector among our clients. Theu are naturally interested in ensuring that all types of paper products are distributed, for further processing in the paper industry, in a perfect state of repair and require efficient services accordingly, in all aspects concerning the paper products, whether it be tallying activities or the loading up of the trailers.
The paper mills have to deliver to their customers, the printers and publishers, reels in a perfect state of repair. In order to achieve this, we are contracted by the Scaninavian paper manufacturers in Sweden and Finland to treat and re-package at the transshipment terminals, damages on paper products which have occurred during transportation / shipment and or cargo-handling operations. We also consider ourselves fortunate to be able to count various Russian paper manufacturers among our clientele.
If the damage occurs in the course of cargo-handling operations at the terminal, the cargo-handling firm at the differing ports and terminals are held liable for this damage. To ensure here that the printing companies also receive undamaged goods, the cargo-handling firms contract us to treat the damaged paper product at these various terminals.
Should it happen that the printing company or publisher receives damaged goods, which have been handled at the terminal where we have not been in operation, or with damages that have occurred during transportation from the cargo-handling company to the printers, we will be contracted directly by the printing company to treat and/or repair the damaged paper product on the spot. Our swift and flexible actions in the local area makes it possible for production processes to proceed without any great loss of production time.
Numerous forwarding companies have their own sheds for storing paper products. If damages are caused in the forwarding company's storage shed, as a result of their own handling of the goods, we are contacted directly by the forwarding company to deal with the paper product's damage.
Here too, our team are able to remedy the damage directly, on the spot, at the forwarding company's premises.
Similarly, insurance companies are also interested in limiting losses. We have numerous international underwriters among our clientele. As a result of our swift and flexible removal of all kinds of damage on paper products, valuable raw material is retained and losses reduced considerably, which is fully in the interest of the underwriters.
Appearances at exhibitions/ trade fairs
In order to present ourselves internationally in the field of paper-, shipment / transportation- and logistics, we set up a joint stand as exhibitors with other enterprises from Lübeck and Hamburg at the Transport- and Logistics Exhibition (Trade Fair) in Munich and at the Ro-ro Trade Fair.
Transportation and Logistics, Munich
We present ourselves together with other enterprises from the paper-, cargo-handling- and transportation branches in Lübeck, at a joint exhibition stand at the Transport- and Logistic Exhibition in Munich, which takes place every two years.
The Roro trade fair in Lübeck, Gothenburg or Ghent also takes place every two years, running however in the gap year between the Transport- and Logistics exhibitions in Munich. Here too, we exhibit once again together, at a joint stand, with enterprises from the paper,- cargo-handling and transportation/shipping branches in Lübeck and Hamburg.
We are members in several associations which represent the ports, paper- and logistic branches, both nationally and internationally. These are: Hafen-Club Hamburg e.V., The Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. and The International Forest Products Association, USA
Similarly, we undertake to sponsor for one to two years those Armed Forces staff colleges which specifically relate to seafaring.
Over the years, two internal functions and conventions have established themselves in our business calendar. It has become a tradition to celebrate the past commercial year at Christmas time by dining, together with all our colleagues, at the Shiffergesellschaft in Lübeck. A second internal event taking place every year is a one or two day staff outing for all personnel. In past years we have undertaken the following targets and activities: the Island of Rügen and the Störtebeker Games, the Island of Sylt, where we have started a Sylt Rally, Canoeing on the Lachte around Celle, with archery and axe throwing. And for next year, for our 10 year jubilee, we have plumped for a rafting tour and a mountaineering practice course in Oberallgäu
We have at our disposal all the technical aids and materials necessary for carrying out our activities in the various business areas.
In order to treat paper products inside the port of Lübeck, to remove the damages and to package anew the reels of paper and pallets, we at our disposal an 8 ton clamp- and fork-lift truck.
For the loading of the trailer in the port of Lübeck a semi-trailer truck is required, with which we can haul the trailers set down by the forwarding company, from the trailer site to their respective storage sheds, in order there to be able to load up those stored reels and wood pulp bales designated for loading. After the loading and securing of the goods has been completed, the trailers are placed back at the trailer site ready ready to be picked up by the respective forwarding company.
The bar code printer is implemented everywhere where damaged layers have to be removed from the reels of paper. The reduction in weight has to be altered on the bar code, located on every reel, with the aid of a bar code printer.
The clamp pressure on the clamp-lift truck is tested with the Auramo Test Pad. If the clamp pressure of the clamp on the lifting-truck has been set too high, the reels of paper will then become deformed when gripped by the clamp, that means that the core-plugs inside the reel of paper will be crushed, which in turn means that it will be impossible to feed the reel into the machine at the printers, for further processing in the paper industry. This reel is then considered to be a total write-off.
With the Auramo Spider we are able to determine whether or not the reel is unround and if the winding on of the layers of paper by the manufacturer varies in tautness through the whole reel.
In the case of unround reels there is a great risk, when being further processed in the paper industry, that these reels of paper rip apart in the printing machine, resulting in enormous time losses and cost intensive stoppages in production.
With the core testing device we are able to test very quickly and simply whether or not the core-plug has become deformed.
The Schmidt Hammer is a device with which we are able to check the degree of tautness of the webbing of the reels of paper.
